We are deeply saddened to share the news that our friend and colleague County Treasurer Jon Peterson has passed away. Jon was an extraordinary person and truly a public servant, serving the people of Delaware County and Ohio in a remarkable range of ways. Among the many roles he filled in his career were State Representative, Delaware County Auditor and Treasurer, Franklin County Finance Director and Deputy Auditor, and pastor at Zion United Church of Christ. Jon was a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, where his father Art taught, and he received his Master of Divinity degree from Methodist Theological School in Ohio. We grieve with his wife Melissa and their daughters Emily and Hannah.
From Delaware County Commissioner Barb Lewis: “Jon truly was a Renaissance man with a huge heart who touched the lives of many—from the most powerful to the homeless, and he treated everyone the same. I will dearly miss his wisdom, wit, leadership and friendship.”
From Delaware County Commissioner Gary Merrell: “Jon used the term ‘my friend’ often. He was always a gentle soul, never judgmental, always thoughtful. His quiet strength will be missed.”
From Delaware County Commissioner Jeff Benton: “Jon did so much for Delaware, the community he loved. He served in so many ways, it would be hard to list them all – Delaware would not be the special place that it is today without his many contributions. I was fortunate to have been friends with Jon for many decades, dating back to our years at Hayes High School together. Along with so many others, I will miss ‘my friend,’ Jon Peterson. And please remember Jon’s family during this time of great loss.”
We will share information about funeral arrangements as soon as they are known.
